# A plant scan is failing: narrow down the issue

Cannot take a picture, analysis ends in an error, or the assessment looks wrong? Those situations need different next steps.

Record where the process fails first. A technical error differs from an uncertain plant identification.

## When you cannot take a picture

Check that PlantDoctor has camera access. Look at the app permissions in iPhone Settings; their exact arrangement may vary by iOS version. Follow the guided view displayed during the scan.

## When analysis does not finish

Analysis needs internet. Check for a usable connection and record any error shown. Review your available scan allowance in the app. Avoid repeatedly retrying blindly or buying another subscription to work around an unknown error.

## When the result seems implausible

Check the three photos for focus, lighting and visible damage. Compare the suggested species with the actual plant and add your knowledge of location and care history. Rare species and hidden damage can make assessment harder.

## Prepare a useful support report

Record iPhone model, iOS version, app version and the failing step. Include the exact error text and whether it repeats. Remove information from screenshots that is unnecessary for help. Never include a password in a support report.

## Separate the failing stages precisely

Camera permission, a blurred image and an analysis error are different situations. Record whether the camera opens, whether all three views are complete and what text appears after starting. Better images improve available information but do not automatically repair a connection. An allowance notice concerns available usage. Avoid changing permissions, account and subscription together before recording the error. Clear stages let support distinguish an access problem from image quality or a server-side failure without guessing from the phrase scan broken.

## Report a controlled comparison

If retrying after a reasoned correction, note what changed and whether the same error returns. For example, changed connection, same third image, same error. That is more useful than many attempts under unknown conditions. This website cannot start your scan or independently confirm a device fault. Send only necessary details and appropriate screenshots. Private notifications, passwords and complete receipts do not belong uncropped in a general bug report when they do not help identify the failing step.

## Your quick check

- Picture problem, connection error or assessment question?
- Exact displayed text recorded?
- Connection and scan allowance checked?
- Device and app versions ready for support?

## Make the issue reproducible

“After the third picture, [exact error] appears; iPhone model …, iOS …, app version …” is more useful than “The scan does not work.”

## Common questions about this topic

**Will an upgrade fix every error?**

No. Review the allowance shown and the specific error. A technical problem is not a reason to pay again just in case.

**Should I send my password?**

No. Support never needs your password.
